What is SIL & ILO Disability Accommodation
SIL stands for Supported Independent living -
This is a type of residency arrangement of your choice, where we provide you services 24/7 in one of our SIL homes and support you to attend your day to day activities and build your independence. This can be in the form of medium to long term arrangement.
We ensure that the support staff network is built around your disability requirements to enable you to live an independent life and help you achieve your daily and life goals.
Our expertise and experience in SIl management, along with the passion to welcome you in our homes and provide you a great service is the differentiator of our service. We at ELS homes aspire to create an environment that make you feel valued and at home.
How is Disability Accommodation Funded?
Daily Living (NDIS funded) -
These are fortnightly payments, that are claimed from NDIA from the yearly funding packages within your NDIS plan. You need to be eligible for NDIS SIl package before looking for a SIL accommodation.
Once you have the approval, service providers like us can then work with you, your family or your support coordinator to build support structure around your needs and the SIL Funding is negotiated between service provider and NDIA based on your requirements.
A Quotation is then submitted by the SIL provider to NDIA using a tool called NDIS SIL Quoting tool. The submitted Quote must align the support ration in accordance with the criteria of reasonable and necessary supports, as per the NDIS SIl rules.
Rent and Board (Disability Support Pension) -
As NDIA funding does not cover for rent and board costs while you are living in the SIL accommodation, the rent and board costs are covered from your Disability support pension that you may be receiving from Centrelink. Usually service provider charges up to 75% of each component of income related to your disability that makes up your total Centrelink income.
Transport (NDIS funded) -
These payments are billed to you separately and charged from the fortnightly transport income that you receive from NDIA, based on the tier of your transport needs. The charges for transport will be discussed with you by us during your intake.
While all of the above sound confusing or too much, don’t worry, we are here to assist and to walk you through this journey making it a breeze. we can negotiate all of the above and will ensure that you do not have to pay anything out of your pocket and still get a brilliant service.

B. Short Term Accommodation (respite) -
This model of living is very similar to the above SIL model and is built around your needs providing your 24/7 supports, however this support is usually for a short period of time (For some days only). The short-term accommodation is basically the respite care that aims to give break to the carers from their caring role for few numbers of days on a regular or one-off basis. This funding sits within the core budget of the participants NDIS plan. As per NDIA if the support need increases more than 14 days than the other solution must be considered and that is SIL (See above).
Short term accommodation payment - The amounts for Short term accommodation are charged at an hourly rate from your NDIS plan core funding. The claimable hours and support ration will be agreed with you in advance before short term accommodation arrangement is put in place. You do not have to pay any separate rent or board or transport in this model as this will be covered from your STA claim.
C. Individual Living Option -
This type of dwelling arrangement is a more focussed, and is based on designing a flexible package of supports based on your needs and preferences. It is a staged implementation with a package targeted for primary and supplementary supports. This is then closely monitored for fine tuning.
The living arrangement under ILO includes -
Co-Residency – support stays full time or part time in the participant's home
Host Arrangements – participant resides full time in the home of a non-related host who provides support
Living Alone – support is provided in the home of the participant in a variety of ways
Living Together – participant lives with other people of their choice and receives support.
With ILO, supports are paid from your plan package from NDIA however the type of living arrangement dictates the other costs that include rent and board and also transport.
Call us today to discuss your individual options and we are confident to assist you with all your SIL, STA or ILO needs.
